WHAT IS BETHESDA THRIFT SHOP?

With the exception of one paid manager, we are an all volunteer Thrift Shop, that opened its doors on February 1, 1993. For 17 years we were located in downtown Hopkins, however, we are now located at 4749 Hwy 101 in Minnetonka, Minnesota (North of intersection of Hwy 101 and Hwy 7).

A mix of goods are offered for sale, including clothing, household goods, new and used furniture, books, cards, linens, jewelry, electrical items and much, much more. The staff screens donations to make sure items for sale are functional and of a good quality. We also try to keep our prices at or below the competition, since we are a small store and need to add new business. The low prices benefit those on fixed incomes; and just about everyone else because who doesn't like low prices?

Clothes that are not up to our standards are not thrown in the garbage; they are sent to other non-profit organizations that ship all over the world.

We're always looking for quality merchandise for our store, and it's a great way to recycle what you can't use for the benefit of others! Since we're also concerned about the environment, we always make sure that the plastic, paper, and cardboard donation containers are recycled.

Some of the staff of over 150 volunteers travel as far as 60 miles to give of their time. Volunteers are always needed for a variety of tasks, from unloading donations to sorting and keeping the shelves fully stocked. Men looking for volunteer opportunities are needed and most appreciated.

Bethesda Thrift Shop in Minnetonka, Minnesota is one of more than 25 resale shops across the country whose main focus is to raise funds from donated items. These funds go directly to provide Christ-centered services to Bethesda residents, who are served by the parent company, Bethesda Lutheran Communities. These services satisfy the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of the residents. Since these needs are so varied, the term developmental disability is usually used to describe the condition of residents. Because the use of so many volunteers at Bethesda Thrift Shop, maximum use is made of the funds raised. For further information about Bethesda Lutheran Communities, visit their web site at www.blhs.org or call 1-800-369-4636.

Where "Bethesda" Came From

The Bethesda name is taken from the "Pool of Bethesda" referenced in John 5:1-9 of the Bible.
